OVERVIEW:
Our client is an award-winning holistic architecture and interiors practice, recognized for contextually sensitive buildings that connect people with communities and elevate the user experience. With a portfolio spanning Residential, Institutional and Civic architecture, this dynamic practice leverages their collaborative multi-disciplinary practice to create memorable environments for living, learning and governing. Leading with design while working across multiple disciplines and market sectors, the firm consistently delivers thoughtful, engaged design for their clients and communities. Given the firm’s continued growth, they are seeking an Associate Principal to assume a key leadership role in their Washington, DC office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Principal is a passionate, well-rounded architect and strategic leader, advancing the firm’s focus on design excellence, multi-disciplinary collaboration and client focused engagement. With demonstrated Residential, Institutional and/or Civic project and client leadership experience, s/he will work regionally and nationally to reinforce and elevate the firm’s reputation for design driven, market responsive and sustainable solutions that capture the essence of place. The Associate Principal will lead client engagements and project teams independently while assisting with office management. As a leader, s/he will leverage the firm’s expertise, portfolio and talent in the development of client initiatives that support short and long-term business objectives.

This strategic hands-on leader will be actively involved in the creative development of projects and the firm, monitoring all aspects of projects focused on the highest quality of architecture and design. As mentor and coach, the Associate Principal will motivate project teams and individuals, fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust within the office. S/he will have the personality and drive to mentor, challenge and engage colleagues and clients alike to elevate design and unlock the potential of each project.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10-15+ years progressive project and client leadership experience on high profile Residential, Institutional and Civic projects
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture and Licensure required, LEED AP preferred
  • Proven client acquisition and client management experience
  • Excellent reputation in DC/MD/VA with regional or national experience
  • Proven track record identifying leads, developing relationships, building a network and producing high quality projects
  • Strong communication, teamwork, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Passion for mentoring younger design talent
  • Ability to work with Revit, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max and Rhino.
