Healthcare Design Leader

Our client is a leading International multi-disciplinary practice consistently recognized and awarded at the highest levels for design excellence and technical innovation. The firm leverages its international expertise and in-depth knowledge of local markets through a network of culturally diverse, people centric global design studios focused on Healthcare, Science + Technology, Education, Government, Aviation + Transportation, Civic + Cultural, Commercial, Hospitality, Justice, Recreation + Wellness, Residential, Retail, Sports, Recreation + Entertainment, Tall Buildings and Workplace projects. Their innovative work encompasses Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Planning + Urban Design, Space Management and Sustainability Consulting. Given the firm’s robust growth and success they are seeking a Healthcare Design Leader for their Los Angeles office.

ROLE:

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the future of Healthcare design and planning; how rapidly emerging technologies and global events are changing the function and design of Healthcare facilities, and how advances in science and medicine are driving the need for new and more flexible spaces. This innovative design leader will work collaboratively with the firm’s deep bench of talent and research to create compelling narratives for the design of Healthcare related projects throughout the Western Unites States.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establish the Design vision and further the development of Healthcare projects in all phases through:

    • Coordinating meetings and developing consensus with the Practice Leader
    • Establishing, communicating, and maintaining standards of quality for design and work product
    • Collaborating with other disciplines in establishing Design direction
    • Producing a Design that is consistent with the owner/client Design objectives, program, budget, and schedule
    • Producing Design drawings consistent with office standards for the publication and presentation of work
    • Writing a comprehensive Design narrative for the project that will inform the client and other disciplines about the Design intent, as well as contribute to publications and business development initiatives
    • Communicating Design goals to the project team on a regular basis
  • Oversees the production of Concept Design, Schematic Design, and Design Development deliverables
  • Together with the Technical Designer, assist the Project Manager in establishing project budgets and schedules, and remain committed to working within the established parameters
  • Oversees project delivery efforts to establish efficient and innovative approaches to communicate design intent and scope throughout all project phases to meet Project Team requirements
  • Oversees the production resources and schedules of documentation for agreed upon deliverables, particularly for the Concept Design, Schematic Design, and Design Development phases
  • Supports the Technical Designer in the implementation of the Quality Management System for assigned project
  • Fosters lasting and positive relationships with clients, the design community, and important government agencies (i.e. planning departments, commissions, and advocacy groups)
  • Oversees the design, programmatic, contextual, and cultural research and analysis required for the project
  • Oversees team in selection and assessment of materials and finishes for the project
  • Reviews deliverables for compliance with the project’s programmatic requirements
  • Supports the production of the technical specifications for the project
  • Works with the Senior Technical Designer, Project Manager and Digital Coordinator to implement the computer management program for the project utilizing the Project BIM Execution Plan and promoting digital innovation
  • When applicable, supports the team’s construction phase services scope including, but not limited to the following:
  • Makes periodic site visits to monitor construction progress and identify areas needing correction and/or modification
  • Attends visual mockup review
  • Assists the Technical Designer in reviewing shop drawings for design intent
  • Works with IT, Marketing, and Records Management to archive all final and preferred drawings, renderings, and photos for future use
  • Participates in local and firm-wide Design Review Meetings and Retreats and makes meaningful contributions to the advancement of activities led by these groups

  • Effective at communicating and promoting the work of the firm

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated creativity, passion and interest in design and planning of S+T focused facilities
  • Advanced knowledge in S+T programming/planning, design development and project leadership
  • Advanced knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for S+T facilities
  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines
  • Through understanding of the current laboratory design codes and guidelines
  • Knowledge of buildingSMART, BIM and IPD
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets
  • Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal staff
  • Proven ability to masterfully present, effectively sell and negotiate the services of the firm
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of architecture including the following computer skills:
    • Proficiency in Deltek Vision highly preferred
    • Proficiency in Primavera or MS Project, Newforma preferred
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite required
    • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop preferred
    • Knowledge of 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006 preferred
    • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or education/experience equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred
  • 10 years of design experience, with at least 5 years leading Healthcare projects
  • Actively engaged in the Los Angeles community with proven Healthcare qualifications
  • Published and/or award-winning projects a plus
  • Licensed Architect with current registration
  • NCARB registration preferred
  • LEED credential required within 6 months of employment
