Senior Architect

OVERVIEW:
This award winning multi-disciplinary architecture + design firm has an extensive portfolio encompassing education, government, commercial, multi-family residential, student housing and hospitality projects. Given the firm’s continued growth, they are seeking a Senior Architect with experience in higher education and government, and preferably commercial and multi-family residential projects, to assume a key leadership role in their growing DC office.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Senior Architect will be a talented and collaborative leader, highly skilled in the design, technical documentation and coordination of complex education, government, commercial and/or multi-family projects. S/he will work closely with the project Partner in Charge and Project Manager in the development of concepts and strategies that respond to program, client and project requirements while striving to elevate design quality and technical execution. The Senior Architect plans initial design concepts, determining functional and special requirements inclusive of exterior and interior building design. The firm’s strengths lie in the holistic integration of architecture, interiors, landscape architecture and engineering, and the Senior Architect, as a project and client leader, works closely across disciplines, collaborating in the development of a project’s design and technical execution. 

With exceptional skills preparing design driven, technically strong documentation for programmatically rich projects, the Senior Architect is integral to the firm’s success. S/he is responsible for the full scope of project responsibilities including design, technical excellence, quality assurance, project delivery and project performance. The Senior Architect provides technical reviews, on-site observation and design submittals / shop drawing review. Adept with the big picture and the smallest details, the Senior Architect will have proven project leadership and understanding of zoning and building codes in relation to practice, process, protocols and construction techniques on projects of multiple scales and share this knowledge and expertise as a mentor to emerging talent.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture and Licensure required, LEED AP preferred

  • 7+ years progressive project and leadership experience on complex education, government, commercial and/or multi-family projects, including new construction and renovation.

  • Revit proficiency required. 

  • Experience with all project phases including success with planning and review boards.

  • Collaborative leader with a proven track record of running teams and working closely with clients, sub-consultants and vendors while completing large, complex projects 

  • Strong Knowledge of Washington DC, MD and VA zoning ordinances, laws and regulations related to education, government, commercial and/or multi-family projects

  • Proven ability to present information and respond quickly to inquiries from managers, clients, and the general public

  • Proven fiscal accountability and responsibility for fees, scope and schedule requirements
