Interiors Practice Leader

For over 80 years, this dynamic Architecture, Interiors and Planning firm has been recognized nationally for contributions to the built environment by balancing the art and science of architecture, while reflecting each client’s unique identity and aspirations. The firm’s core principles of collaboration, design excellence and sustainability have positioned them as an industry leader and expert, with market sectors including Workplace, Multifamily, Hospitality, Higher Education, Institutional and Mixed-Use projects. Given the firm’s planned growth and success they are seekingan Interiors Practice Leader to complement the existing team and build upon the Interiors portfolio within the DC Region and Nationally.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
As part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary design practice, the Interiors Practice Leader will work closely with the Principal of Interiors, expanding and elevating the firm’s established Workplace, Hospitality and Higher Education portfolio. S/he will lead creative efforts, develop next-generation talent, bring new approaches to the design process, provide creative direction to design teams and play a major role in maintaining the firm’s elevated standards. This includes project design strategies, work product/presentations, and project design direction. S/he will champion the firm’s design and promote a design culture and approach both internally and externally. The Interiors Practice Leader will take an active role in new business development, and assist the Principal of Interiors and Project Managers in managing the financial success for projects. The Interiors Practice Leader embodies high standards of design excellence and innovation, as well as an entrepreneurial approach to interiors as an integrated component of the firm's portfolio. The Interiors Practice Leader will:

  • Lead the creative efforts of multiple interior design teams on projects from the initial marketing stages through construction and installation

  • Develop and own overall design concepts and design presentation strategies

  • Build and sustain client relationships; act as the primary design interface with clients, team members, and a wide range of consultants and collaborators, both internal and external

  • Mentor and develop designers; provide creative direction to design teams

  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design, Architecture or Interior Architecture required. 

  • 10+ years of large scale Interior Workplace, Hospitality and/or Student Housing project experience, including 5+ years’ of experience in a leadership role

  • ASID, AIA, LEED, well-being or equivalent accreditation preferred

  • Strong leadership, communications, and relationship management skills

  • Proven success in client engagement + business development with positive results

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite
