This award winning multi-disciplinary architecture + design firm has an extensive portfolio encompassing multi-family, mixed-use, hospitality, commercial, education, student housing and government projects. Given the firm’s continued growth, they are seeking a Director of Interiors with experience in multi-family, mixed-use and hospitality projects, to assume a key leadership role in their growing DC office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary design practice, the Director of Interiors will work closely with Architecture + Planning leadership, growing an Interiors Practice that is responsive to the marketplace and within the firm's core values and design ethos. S/he will have the opportunity to use his or her exemplary skills, talents and expertise in creating a framework that supports stand alone interiors as well as integrated projects. The Director of Interiors brings visionary and creative leadership with a deep understanding of the profession, setting design and practice vision for the Interiors Practice in alignment with firm-wide design goals. In collaboration with office and firm leadership, s/he provides inspiration and design direction for projects, leads the acquisition, recognition, development and mentoring of talent, and actively pursues new business leads.

The Director of Interiors embodies high standards of design excellence and innovation, as well as an entrepreneurial approach to interiors as an integrated component of the firm's portfolio. As part of a collaborative practice, the Director of Interiors engages Partners and firm leaders, drawing upon the expertise of multiple disciplines and leveraging the firm's portfolio and knowledge of the Multifamily, Mixed-Use, Commercial and Hospitality market sectors to deliver innovative design solutions.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture or Interior Architecture required. Master’s degree preferred

  • NCIDQ or Architectural registration as required for professional practice

  • 12-15+ years of progressively responsible medium to large-scale project experience in the Interior design profession, including 5-10 years of experience leading teams

  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of interior design practice including programming, space planning, concept and design development, and detailing 

  • A strong design ethos, with a dynamic, creatively focused and collaborative approach

  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectural design, documentation, detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques and costs ideal

  • Business skills relative to fee generation, staff management and forecasting ideal

  • Ability to deliver engaging presentations

  • Excellent people management + strong team leadership with ability to listen and collaborate

  • Proven success in business development with positive results

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office. Revit a plus.
