The firm currently employs approximately 800 architects, planners, engineers and interior designers in 30 offices worldwide. It consistently ranks in the top largest architecture/engineering and interior design firms in the US, and is listed in BD World Architecture’s top 25 global practices. Market expertise includes Healthcare, Higher Education, Hospitality, Federal and Local Government, Civic, Institutional, Corporate/Commercial, Aviation, Science + Technology and Cultural. Given the firm’s planned growth and success they are seeking to identify a Director of Business Development for the firm’s Atlanta office.

ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an key leader within this International Architecture, Engineering, Planning and Interiors Firm, the Director of Business Development will be instrumental in coalescing the Atlanta office’s cadre of talented Market Sector Leaders (MSL’s), experts and design professionals under a dynamic marketing + business development strategy that aligns with short and long-term business goals. S/he will gain a strong understanding of the firm’s talent, expertise and culture in the development of detailed strategic business plans for each market sector. The strategic business development plans, inclusive of budgets, will provide a ‘live blueprint’ to guide and direct the marketing and business development initiatives. In collaboration with the Managing Principal and Director of Operations, the Director of Business Development will be responsible for orchestrating and leading business development activities focused on identifying and securing Corporate/Commercial, Aviation, Healthcare, Consulting Engineering, Academic, Public/Institutional and Hospitality clients + projects.

The Director of Business Development is actively engaged in the planning and implementation of strategies instrumental in winning work by managing the business development team, identifying opportunities, developing relationships, creating and executing capture strategies, and closing work. The Director of Business Development will work closely with the Atlanta MSL’s to establish, implement, and maintain the business development short and long range plans and coordinate the budget for the office with the Managing Principal and Director of Operations. S/he is responsible for driving results to exceed new business contracted goals by overseeing marketing activities and successfully supporting a team of MSL’s. The Director of Business Development must promote and establish collaboration and individual leadership within the team to identify, acquire, and retain new and current clientele and strategic partners. S/he will continually evaluate the team’s strategies and effectiveness in capture planning and winning work, and implement process improvements based on evidence, observations, trends, and client feedback. With the ability to develop and build upon new and existing client, consultant, and other related industry relationships’ s/he is responsible for expanding the firm’s regional network inclusive of owners, developers, brokers and other business and community organizations.

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for ensuring his/her colleagues develop a thorough and appropriate strategic understanding and response for each opportunity while proactively developing relationships that position the firm prior to RFP. S/he will leverage the firm's multi-disciplinary platform and depth of expertise as key market differentiators and dynamic instruments for client engagement in building a compelling value proposition that closely aligns with the vision, goals and objectives of the firm.

ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Business Development reports to the Managing Principal and will assist the Managing Principal, Director of Operations, Director of Marketing, MSL’s and PM’s in identifying personnel needs for pursuit teams, evaluating scope and scheduling requirements of opportunities, and transitioning opportunities from pursuits to contracted work. S/he must lead by example, assuming direct responsibility for all business development activities and responsible for marketing activities by the Director of Marketing.

ATLANTA OFFICE:
The firm’s Atlanta office, which opened in 1985, provides architecture, planning, interior design and program management services with a deep portfolio of Aviation, Healthcare, Consulting Engineering, Academic, and Public/Institutional projects.

Notable local projects include: the CIBA Vision Corporation Corporate Campus; Kaiser Permanente Cascade Medical Center; Grady Health System - Correll Cardiac Center; Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart; Georgia State University Library; Mercer University, Willet Science Center; Georgia Gwinnett College Library; and Delta Air Lines, Operations Control Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional expertise demonstrated through 10+ years of proven ability to drive results meeting revenue and profitability goals through successful lead generation/follow through, customer relations, pursuit development, and client management in the A/E/C industry.

  • Ability to build extensive and reputable relations with clients, strategic partners and community members within the City of Atlanta and the metro area and throughout the State of Georgia; familiarity with the Atlanta metro area is a requirement.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Master’s Degree is a plus.

  • Experience in planning, economic development, feasibility studies, programming, cost/benefit analyses, cost estimating, design, and project management is a plus.

  • Experience with Deltek Vision CRM is a plus.

  • Exceptional self-motivation, customer service orientation, communication, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, problem solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to become involved in and remain current on issues relating to a number of concurrent opportunities in various stages.

  • Active leader and member of varied professional and community organizations. (BOMA, IFMA, AIA, DBIA, SMPS, ASHE, ACHE, Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, etc.) would be beneficial.
