Given the firm’s robust growth and success they are seeking a Senior Aviation + Transportation Planner for their NYC Studio.
ROLE:
The Senior Aviation + Transportation (A+T) Planner is a skillful and proven project leader, complementing the firm's established talent and advancing the firm's strategic Aviation + Transportation Infrastructure initiatives. Working closely with firmwide and regional Aviation + Transportation teams, the design focused Senior A+T Planner is responsible for the evaluation and recommendation of physical planning solutions for airport terminals and other transportation facilities’ planning and design issues, including professional technical analysis. As one of the top Aviation + Transportation Practices in the U.S., the firm has successfully delivered over $35 billion of transport projects across the U.S. and globally.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- As a senior staff planner, supports the project planning and design team with technical planning expertise in the areas of programming, planning and design of terminals, airfields, landside areas and other transportation related facilities.
- Leads the preparation of definition and description of project strategies, approaches, methodologies and schedules.
- Prepares facility condition assessments and quantitative and narrative inventories of existing facilities.
- Performs demand and capacity evaluations and calculates facility and quantitative areas.
- Leads project team members, consultants and airport and transportation agency planners in technical coordination.
- Leads project meetings and presentations; ensure client is adequately briefed on project progress.
- Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
- Maintains current knowledge of aviation and transportation planning and design solutions for the continual improvement of project work and group practices.
- Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
- Fosters a culture of external and internal client service.
Teamwork
- Assists Project Manager in establishing overall project budgets and milestone schedules in coordination with project team.
- Communicates to project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
- Prepares and modifies architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc. Assures Firm document standards are met and archives documents appropriately.
- Applies proper QA/QC methods throughout project.
Business Development
- Develops and maintains excellent relationships with existing and potential clients, associated firms, and consultants.
- Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities and presentations. Partners with Aviation Leadership to identify opportunities for winning projects.
- Assists in organizing public outreach and participation activities and meetings.
- Assists marketing department in development of proposal preparation.
- Assists in preparation of award submittals.
- Assists in the preparation of press releases and other materials publicizing assigned projects.
- Assists Aviation Leadership in the development of yearly business strategic plans and goals.
- Participates actively in the firm-wide Aviation + Transportation practice meetings and events.
- Assists Aviation Leadership in identifying new strategies for developing and growing the Aviation + Transportation practice.
- Acts as mentor by coaching and motivating; fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust among members of the Aviation + Transportation group as it grows and develops.
- May participate in interviews and recruiting of the Aviation + Transportation group.
- Assists in the development of standard materials that describe the portfolio, systems, processes and people of the Aviation + Transportation group.
- Participates in local or state professional associations, maintains active membership, and attends events related to building information technology. Represents Firm at selected events.
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in airport planning, transportation planning/engineering, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, civil engineering, environment management, geography, public administration or business administration. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience on programming and planning of airport and/or other transportation facilities projects.
- Architecture license preferred.
- LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.
SKILLS + COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrated creativity, passion and interest in planning and design of airport and transportation facilities.
- Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements of airport/airfield design. ? Knowledge of airport and airfield programming delivery and how design impacts those systems –including space, operational, and airfield programming.
- Knowledge of airport planning, design, construction documents, construction administration and project construction cost control for airport facilities.
- Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
- Possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop preferred.
- Proficiency in Revit.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Proficiency in NewForma preferred.
- Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients and perform in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Some travel and overtime will be required.

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The typical salary range for this position is $140,000 to $150,000.
