Technical Design Leader

Our client is an award-winning architecture firm, actively leading design and research projects nationally. They work closely with project stakeholders in the creative design and development of buildings, master plans, exhibits, and conversations that introduce innovative solutions that positively address changing climates, technologies, lifestyles, and urban environments. ith a portfolio spanning Residential, Mixed-Use, Leftover Sites, Super Green, Tactical, Reuse, and Workplace projects, this dynamic practice leverages its multi-disciplinary cadre of talent to create dynamic environments that invigorate the urban landscape. Given the firm’s continued growth, the Principals are seeking a Technical Design Leader to assume a key leadership role in their collaborative Philadelphia studio.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Technical Design Leader will work closely with the Principals, Project Architects and project teams, leveraging their technical expertise and creativity to deliver technically strong multifamily, mixed-use and commercial projects. With an affinity for problem solving and strong design and construction detailing, this key leader will provide technical design expertise and oversight in the development of the entire design concept incorporating planning, engineering, and interiors. The Technical Leader is responsible for a project’s technical design effort, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination and quality control efforts for all phases while providing major input in developing a design and building performance strategy.

The Technical Design Leader oversees the preparation of design documents and the detailed development of construction documents. Adept with the big picture and the smallest details, they participate in and lead the review of design and construction documents for compliance with contract deliverables, mentor assigned team members to elevate their knowledge and expertise, and oversee construction administration services.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10-15+ years of progressively responsible leadership in all phases of architecture on a range of residential and commercial building types, preferably on mixed-use multi-family housing.
  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree required
  • Architecture Licensed required, LEED AP preferred
  • Specific knowledge of wood-frame, podium, and typical mid-rise construction types and building systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural design, delineation, detailing, building material, building codes, construction techniques and costs
  • Responsible for the Technical Development of the project, for the preparation of construction documents and administration of the project through construction
  • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills
  • Technical expertise including working knowledge of building, zoning, and energy codes, construction documentation and detailing, and construction administration required.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Revit documentation and management expertise required.
  • Experience working in Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, and other American cities a plus.
